About Lifting World The crane industry website especially created for the novice, right through to the expert. whatever your job description is. Whether you are just thinking of moving in to this industry, or you are the most experienced in your field, if you are already a Banksman/Signaller, Operator/Driver, Fitter/Engineer or indeed a Manager/Managing Director, in fact anyone within whole range of the lifting-world, this is the website for you. Raise your comments and questions on the respective forum/s and hopefully they will be answered by the skilled persons within these forums. Our
aim: During my crane career, many questions arose (and still do), about various situations that I came across, although people are constantly learning from daily occurrences which thankfully most operator/drivers are able to take in their stride, however there are occasions when no textbook can help out. Because of the very nature of such a ' commanding and responsible' job, (being in charge of very expensive machinery), I found that sometimes I was looked upon as 'God'. Therefore, I was expected to know everything there was to know about crane operations. This as we all know is not the case. Many times I found myself 'blagging' my way through a particular situation, especially if I was on a new crane, or someone else's, which operated completely different to mine, although I had been installed on it maybe months or even years before. For instance, I had forgotten how to set up the S.L.I. on a couple of occasions and then it's, "Oh s---! Everyone's watching me now, what can I do? I don't want to ring up the office because I'm an experienced operator aren't I?" You know we've all been there. Often pride stops you from asking another operator/driver. Well now, you can put your questions on a forum and maybe get your answer before that situation arises. Now
that LOLER and PEWER has come into place, and an appointed person is in
force, it eases the situation greatly, but there is still a vast
amount of information out there that can be exchanged via this
website. Whoever you may be, if you work with any type of lifting
crane, this is the place for you.
